On March 3, 2011 there was a meeiting in Newport, OR to discuss salmon fisheries for this year. This is for the federal fishery only - states waters will not be be determined untill the last part of April this year.

The meeting ""Ocean Salmon Industry Group Preseason Planning Meeting" covered these key points -

  • 2010 Season Summary

  • 2011 Management Process Schedule

  • 2010 Escapement Estimates

  • 2011 Stock Abundance Forecasts

and other materials....

To paraphrase the meeting and the key points that will directly effect our Tillamook Bay area fishery -

The Sacremento salmon (fall chinook) seems to be on course for an amazing return this year. Which is great news! Though there are other species that will impose new constraints on the harvesting of salmon this fall. There are several meetings that will be taking place over the next few weeks that will decide the federal regulations for this years ocean salmon season. Please remember that these meeting will decide only the federal regulations - the state waters (bay and terminal area) will not be decided upon until later in April.

Currently the Pacific Fishery Management Council is meeting in Vancouver, WA with the schedule to adopt ocean salmon options for public review. These meeting will be done on March 10, 2011.

Following these meeting the ODFW/WDFW will hold a public meeting March 14 in Vancouver concerning the Columbia River Fisheries.

The following is a list of further public meeting schedules.

  • March 15 North of Falcon - ocean/Columbia river salmon season negotiations. Olympia, WA

  • March 28 PFMC Public Options Hearings Coos Bay, OR

  • March 29 PFMC Public Options Hearing Eureka, CA

  • April 5 North of Falcon 2 (continued negotiations) Lynwood, WA

Please, get involved, keep up to date and have your voice heard.

You can keep up to date here as well. We will try to keep you posted as soon as we are able.
